This year we are beginning what we hope will be a new tradition of holiday gift giving to our "near neighbors", by supporting the girls in Community Bridges and their families!
Community Bridges is a Silver Spring-based community based organization which provides after school leadership and empowerment programming for girls grades 4 - 11 and college advising for Community Bridges high school seniors. Ninety percent of the families are Pell eligible and low income and many will be the first in their family to attend college. Community Bridges offers some of the very most needy of enrolled families the opportunity to request support over the holidays. CB partners with Rainbow Food Distribution to register these families for a holiday delivery of extra food. In addition, CB identified about 30 of the least these families to also request games or toys for children and winter clothes for family members.
This is where you come in! Please look at the Holiday Wish List and see if you can add a CB family member in need to your holiday list! Gifts purchased may be dropped off at the Club on the Art Room table marked "Community Bridges." Alternatively, have items delivered to the Club - just be sure to mark them for attention of "WCCC Comm Serv Gift- CBxx FMyy" You must include the CB family# and Family Member (FM#) number you see on the requested item via SignUp Genius. Correctly marking with the CB Family# and the Family Member# is very important so that we can package the items to each family correctly for delivery.
If you wrap the gift, please wrap in a shoebox style with a lid that can be removed or use a holiday bag with tissue so we can check in the items. Or another option: leave unwrapped and we will wrap! Deliver or drop off items to the Club by Friday, December 2nd. Leave in the Art Room on the table labeled Community Bridges.
Thank you so much for considering the resilient and amazing Community Bridges girls and their families. You will be hearing more about Community Bridges from Executive Director Shannon Babe-Thomas at our next General Meeting Dec. 21st. Happy Thanksgiving to all! We hope you can add a CB family member in need to your Black Friday, Cyber Monday or other holiday shopping lists.
