WCCC is a nonprofit social and philanthropic club; its main goal is community support with a particular focus on the welfare of women and children. WCCC offers its members many opportunities to engage with each other, both in community sevice efforts and in activities with a focus on educational enrichment.
With over a dozen "Sections" focused on specific interest areas the Club provides social, educational, and philanthropic opportunities that align with members' interests. Club social events are open to all members and frequentlly guests, too, including happy hours, parties, holiday celebrations, and many opportunites to volunteer and contribute to our community service efforts.
WCCC fundraising contributes to our ability to offer annual grants to many local charites serving women and children. Our Scholarship program provides funds for worthy high school students to attend the college of their choice. Members actively volunteer time and contribute to worthwhile causes including clothing drives, book sales, food programs, and our fund raising efforts. Our annual Art Show supports over 150 local artists, providing a venue to showcase and sell their work.
The monthly general meetings are a business meeting followed by a catered lunch and a speaker. These occur on the third Wednesday of each month, and are available in a hybrid format through Zoom for those that can't attend in person. Section and committee meetings occur once a month, also, and there are other interest groups and social events to encourage regular interaction among our members.
Anyone from the Washington, D.C. area is welcome to join as a regular member. Thanks to our hybrid Zoom format, we also accomodate members who are out of state or even international.
Your level of involvement can always vary according to your available time and interests, from simply observing a presentation to joining a committee or attending a social event. Most of our members remain active for years, varying their level of involvement as their life circumstances change.
WCCC was founded in 1913, yes, more than 100 years ago! We currently have over 275 active members, positioning us as the largest Woman's Club in Maryland.
Membership dues are $200 for the Club year, June 1 to May 31.
