During the longest war in American history , the U.S. Military and U.S. contractors relied on Afghan citizens for support and aid. In recognition of their help and loyalty, the United States committed to resettle them in the United States. With the Taliban surge in Afghanistan last year, the US airlifted 75,000 refugees, including families. As of December 2021, Operation Allies Welcome, has brought 50,000 refugees into the United States for resettlement throughout the United States, including in DC, Maryland and Virginia.
The WCCC has partnered with Homes Not Borders, a local non-profit that provides furniture, furnishings and apartment set up for refugees settling in this area. As a non-profit they are always looking for volunteers and donations. You recently received an email from Mary Helen Foglia introducing you to a project we have undertaken to gather donations of furniture and furnishings and help set up an apartment for a refugee family.
Currently, Homes Not Borders is setting up 2-3 apartments a week and having inventory and smart hands to help is critical to their success.

Consider joining our efforts to provide community and a home for those who helped us in the past. Take a moment to review the list of furniture and furnishings needed to set up new homes for the refugees. We will need help for the donation days and the actual day we set up the apartments. Here is a small sampling of what is needed:
Beds and Bedframes
Pots and Pans
We will be collecting furniture and furnishings at the WCCC from February 19th– February 23rd. We will be setting up an apartment on February 28th. Additional details are in the email and google document sent out to you .
